Major Industrial Applications

1. Paints, Coatings & Inks: Works as a slow-evaporating solvent and carrier fluid in industrial paints, varnishes, wood treatments, and offset printing inks.

2. Metalworking & Industrial Cleaning: Used as a degreasing agent, metal-rolling oil, and liquid carrier in metal machining operations because it dissolves oils without leaving heavy residues or aggressively attacking surfaces.

3. Agrochemical Formulation: Serves as an emulsifiable concentrate carrier for pesticides, herbicides, and crop protection chemicals due to its chemical stability and low phytotoxicity.

4. Consumer & Commercial Products: Formulated into polish products, car care waxes, sealants, liquid lamp oils, and specialty household cleaners.

5. Mining & Oilfield Chemicals: Functions as an extraction solvent in hydrometallurgical operations (such as copper solvent extraction) and as a drilling fluid additive.

Environmental & Health Considerations

• Toxicity Profile: Low acute oral, dermal, and inhalation toxicity. Because of its dearomatized nature, it exhibits significantly lower toxicity and irritancy compared to conventional aromatics-heavy kerosene or white spirits.

• Aspiration Hazard: Like most low-viscosity hydrocarbon liquids, if ingested, it presents a serious aspiration hazard (H304: May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways). Vomiting should never be induced if ingested.

• Handling & Storage: Should be handled in well-ventilated areas using chemical-resistant gloves and safety eyewear. It accumulates static electricity during pumping, so proper grounding and bonding procedures are required during transfer.
